President Donald Trump is known for many things, but humility is not one of them. Whether he’s taking credit for the hard work of others or bragging about the number of viewers who watched his State of the Union Address, Trump’s over-inflated ego is no secret. So when the president made a bold claim about his administration during the United Nations General Assembly, his comment was greeted with laughter.
According to NPR, when addressing diplomats on September 25th during the annual meeting in New York, Trump began by bragging.
“In less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country,” he said.
It was at this point that chuckles could be heard throughout the audience.
Trump seemed slightly taken aback by the laughter, but made light of it, saying, “Didn’t expect that reaction, but that’s okay.”
“The United States is a stronger, safer, and richer country than it was when I assumed office less than two years ago,” he continued. “We are standing up for America and the American people, and we are also standing up for the world.”

By now, it’s not surprising that Trump would make outlandish claims about the success of his administration. Over the past two years, he’s exaggerated and lied about everything from his approval ratings to the number of jobs he’s created. And, as PolitiFact pointed out, Trump’s U.N. speech included plenty of misleading claims, like that North Korea has taken “encouraging measures” since Trump met with Kim Jong Un, and that the U.S. is the “largest giver of foreign aid.”
Trump’s pattern of boasts and lies isn’t likely to end any time soon. But based on the General Assembly’s recent reaction, it doesn’t seem like he’s fooling anyone.
