Poll: Damn near every American wants to see the Mueller report

As Donald Trump and his attorney general nominee hedge on making the special counsel’s Russia report fully available to the public, the public has something to say: Give us that damn report.

A CNN/SSRS poll released Thursday found that nearly nine in 10 Americans want Robert Mueller’s team to “produce a full, public report on their findings, a sentiment that crosses party lines.”

Fully 87 percent want a report on Mueller’s Russia findings made public, while only 9 percent do not. Those supportive of a public release include 80 percent of Republicans who also say Trump is doing a good job, 88 percent of independents, and 92 percent of Democrats and detractors of Trump.

In other words, damn near everyone. It’s actually somewhat stunning that only 4 percent of respondents had no opinion, suggesting the American public is much more invested in the investigation than Washington politicians typically suggest.

Support for a public release got just a 3-point bump since CNN’s last poll in May 2017—so pretty steady. But interestingly, the increase in support mostly came from an 8-point bump among Republicans (80 percent now vs. 72 percent in May).
