Trump’s acting attorney general won’t recuse himself from the Russia probe, unlike his predecessor Jeff Sessions

Handpicked by President Donald Trump, acting US Attorney General Matthew Whitaker will not recuse himself from overseeing the probe into Russia’s alleged interference in the 2016 election, a source has told Reuters. Ethics experts inside the Justice Department suggested Whitaker, who has been critical of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation in the past, should not supervise the probe, said the source, who has knowledge of the situation. Whitaker’s decision will raise eyebrows in Congress for fear he might try to interfere with Mueller’s investigation, President Donald Trump has called that investigation, nearing its conclusion, a “witch hunt.”
